WORLD HERITAGE SITE

THE DERWENT MILLS

Derwent Valley Mills is a World Heritage Site along the River Derwent. Developed by Richard Arkwright. With advancements in technology, it became possible to produce cotton continuously.

Visit Cromford Mills exploring the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site as well as a variety of visitor attractions, shops, cafes, exhibitions, guided tours and galleries.

VISITOR ATTRACTION

CRICH TRAMWAY VILLAGE

The National Tramway Museum contains over 60 trams built between 1900 and 1930 and is set within Crich Tramway Village, a period village containing a pub, cafe, old-style sweetshop and tram depots.

The museum’s collection of  Trams runs through the village-setting with visitors transported one-mile out into the local countryside and back.

HILL WALKING

HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM

The Heights of Abraham is a tourist attraction in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, England. It consists of a hilltop park on top of Masson Hill, accessed from the village by either the Heights of Abraham cable car or a steep zig-zag path.

Amongst the attractions in the park, which has been open since Victorian times, are cavern and mine tours. There are also views of the dramatic scenery of the valley of the River Derwent.

VISITOR ATTRACTION

CHATSWORTH HOUSE

Chatsworth House is a stately home in the Derbyshire Dales. Standing on the east bank of the River Derwent, Chatsworth looks across to the low hills that divide the Derwent and Wye valleys.

The house, set in expansive parkland and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland, contains an important collection of paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artefacts.

Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom’s favourite country house several times.

CARSINGTON WATERS

Carsington Water is a reservoir operated by Severn Trent Water located near Wirksworth.

The reservoir is a major centre for leisure activities including walking, cycling, fly fishing, birdwatching, sailing, canoeing, and windsurfing.

DAY OUT

PEAK RAIL

Peak Rail is a preserved railway in Derbyshire, which operates a steam and heritage diesel service for tourists and visitors to both the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales.

The preserved railway line is over three and a half miles (5.6 km) in length and, as of April 2016, operates train services from Matlock station.

GREAT WALKING

CROMFORD CANAL

Enjoy a waterside stroll along the Cromford Canal on this easy walk in Derbyshire. This section of the canal runs from Cromford to Ambergate and is designated as a Biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve.

The walk passes the Leawood Pump House by the aqueduct over the River Derwent and a series of pretty bridges. You’ll also pass shining cliff woods and enjoy lovely views of the Derwent Valley. This stretch and the footpath runs from Cromford to Ambergate and is a haven for wildlife.
